San Diego-born pianist Paul Smith spent the early part of his musical life with the Johnny Richards band, which he joined in 1941. After leaving that group to become a member of the Les Paul Trio in 1946, he went on to play and tour with topline acts such as Ella Fitzgerald, Les Paul, Nat King Cole, Dizzy Gillespie, and Bing Crosby.
Smith passed away in summer 2013, at the age of 91.
