“My father bought me a pair of turntables in middle school,” says DJ/MC Jay Rockwell, who cites Jam Master Jay as an early influence. While DJing with a local coalition called Playtime Attractions, which included DJ Clobber, he says “We then decided to form the Orchestra. This consisted of the same members of Playtime Attractions, but under a different name. Our mission was to primarily focus on turntablism, improve on our skills, and dominate DJ competitions.”
The group was later joined by DJ R-Type and DJ Virus, branching out into a full fledged electronic indie hip-hop band, making extensive use of samples. “Our music is experimental,” says DJ/MC Jay Rockwell. “We are not receiving any form of royalties from our art. Respect to the original songwriters, record labels, and artists.”
Based in Paradise Hills, their full-length The 1st Experience was rleased in 2009.
