Violinist Nick Stamon (whose last name was originally Stamatopoulos) spent nearly sixty years teaching others how to play.
Already an accomplished violinist when he graduated Hoover High School, Stamon earned his bachelor’s in economics at San Diego State College. His first musical job was teaching students at the Fiddle and Bow music store in downtown San Diego.
A one-time president of the American String Teachers Association, Stamon performed locally with the Sherwood Hall Orchestra and the San Diego Opera. In his later years, he even posted lessons on YouTube.
Stamon died of a brain tumor on September 13, 2011, at his Kensington home at the age of 88.
