The Midnight Pine features Alfred Howard (K23 Orchestra, Black Sands, the Heavy Guilt, etc.) and singer Shelbi Bennett. Their full-length Awake Now was released in 2012, taking home the trophy for Best Local Recording at the October 2013 San Diego Music Awards.
Their 2014 album Buried won Best Americana Album at that year's San Diego Music Awards. Early the following year, their song "Caution" was heard on the Bravo TV show Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce.
Howard cofounded a new record label in early 2015 with his Heavy Guilt bandmate Josh Rice and Matt Molarius of Transfer, the Redwoods Music, whose debut release was a 7-inch single of The Midnight Pine's "Caution," issued April 18, 2015 (national Record Store Day).
The group released a limited edition vinyl album, The Midnight Pine Live at A.D., in April 2020.
