Singer/guitarist Trent Hancock got his start playing around Pacific Beach, including a Tuesday night residency at the Tiki bar. By 2006, he was making his main living as a musician, collaborating with producers Mikal Blue and Andrew Williams (Colbie Calliat, OneRepublic).
In 2009, Hancock was fronting local indie-electro band Ghostbird and filling in on keyboards for alt-rockers Transfer during that year's tour. After spending a couple of years elsewhere (Brooklyn, L.A.), he returned to San Diego and teamed up with Midnight Pine drummer Alfred Howard to form Lady and the Lion, which released its debut album The Grey on March 27, 2015, at the Whistle Stop.
The album includes guest players like drummers Jake Najor (Styletones) and Chad Farran (Superunloader), as well as Shelbi Bennet (Midnight Pine), Sandi King (22 Kings), Josh Rice (Cold Fact), Jeremiah Zimmerman (Silent Comedy), Phylicia Barron, Tim McNalley, and Lauren Scheff. A video was released for the song "Wish It Wasn't You."
