Metal band Legacy formed in 1983 and toured from 1987 until 1992. “We first started out as a 16-piece band back in the early ’80s,” says singer/guitarist Nick Albert. “As the band dwindled, it ended up with three members. So we started out as Powerplay, then changed the name to Legend, and we became Legacy when we started to tour.”
The band’s love of Deep Purple was so central to their sound that they recorded their own version of “Smoke on the Water.” They eventually managed to open for Purple, as well as for Black Oak Arkansas, Robin Trower, Sidhartha, Stryper, Aerosmith, Dokken, Lita Ford, and Iron Maiden.
Nick Albert is still in San Diego and recording new music. He’s also working with various other local acts, including Classical Gas, AZ Reflection, Blue Moon, and Get Lucky.
