“I’m inspired by the passionate music scene throughout this city and feel fortunate to be able to contribute to the history and vibe of this amazing seaside paradise that I call home,” says singer-songwriter Kris McCoy, who moved from Arizona to San Diego in 2011 to pursue a bachelor’s degree at PLNU in Point Loma. “It’s easy to write music when you are surrounded by both cool places and people on a daily basis.”
McCoy released three albums with two different bands, Shallow Water’s 2002 debut Two Dollar Sailboat and their 2006 followup What’s Her Name?, and Half Smile’s 2010 album Similar Distant View.
Parts of his debut solo CD Toes in the Sand, released in summer 2014, concern the San Diego Junior Lifeguard Foundation. “The music on this album is about summer, Ocean Beach and meet-ups at Tower 2 for family beach days and surfing. The Lifeguards and Junior Lifeguard Foundation do so much for this city.”
