Killing Tyranny features singer/songwriter George Gregory, who moved from Detroit to Covina, California in 2000 and hooked up with former members of the Wicked to form Outraged. That band relocated to San Diego in 2001 and released two CDs.
Gregory next joined former members of Sanctuary, including guitarist Frank Kowalski, to form a band called Ironworks. which remained extant until 2010. Gregory and Kowalski then formed Killing Tyranny with lead guitarist Scott Moller, bassist Erik Owens, and drummer Devon Antrim.
The debut Killing Tyranny album Martyr was released on the band's Twisted Prophet label in May 2015, preceded by the single "God Bless the Child." After its release, guitarist Frank Kowalski left the group for health reasons and was replaced by Jason Bonsongue.
