After musician, and songwriter Kenny Becker's parents gifted him piano lessons as a child, he started to improvise on the keys. His mother would sit next to him in their San Diego home and notate his improvisations into sheet music, and record them on a tape recorder. A few years later, Kenny joined a local church youth group, where he not only developed his guitar skills, but his critical thinking. He would go on to share stages with Lucy Dacus, Shame, Jean Dawson and Grandaddy.
Becker relocated to L.A. and formed the band Goon, working with with Reggie Watts (who often wears Goon shirts, like on Jack Black's celebrity Dungeons & Dragons), Grizzly Bear's Ed Droste, and Spoon's Alex Fischel, who plays on Goon's 2022 album, Hour Of Green Evening.
Sinus polyps that have affected Becker's ability to hear and smell, which he says causes him to experience music in a different way than most people. He creates all of Goon's artwork and studied art in college, where he fell in love with landscape painting (and ate his lunches in the art room). "I'm often inspired by nature and how the man-made interacts with it. When I'm making music or art, it's really hard for me to worry about the past or future."
