“As a child I loved hearing my grandad sing songs from the Sound of Music while strumming his old cracked ukulele,” says Jesse Daniel Edwards. “I learned to play by watching and listening at his feet.” Edwards avidly studied guitar, banjo, mandolin, bass, percussion, piano, harmonica, clarinet, saxophone, and the oboe growing up. From the ripe old age of ten hebegan composing his own original music with his six brothers and sisters, arranging harmonies and recording their earliest efforts in his family’s coal cellar.
As Jay Smart, the mandolinist/guitarist was a member of the Smart Brothers, who were nominated for Best New Artist at the 2008 San Diego Music Awards, and Best Acoustic Act at the 2009 Awards. His solo albums include Lie to Me.
Based in North County San Diego, the Carlsbad native launched a new group in 2013, Jesse Daniel Edwards & Super Inc. With that group, he released an album called American Dreaming (Orange Cologne Da Vita Robot Records) in 2014. He is a Kala Ukuleles Signature Artist
