Jeff Nevin is a composer/conductor whose compositions have been performed by ensembles in San Diego, La Jolla, Colorado, San Bernardino, Idaho Falls, and elsewhere. He has conducted the La Jolla Symphony, where he is also the principal trumpet player, and performed at the Sinfonia Mexicana's "Opera y Mariachi," "Noche de Alegria," and "Musical Treasures of Mexico," among other Latin-themed events. He performs frequently as a substitute with the San Diego Symphony.
Nevin has a PhD in music theory and composition and is the director/founder of Mariachi Champaña Nevín, a professional virtuoso ensemble. He also leads Mariachi Garibaldi, a 15-member student ensemble. Currently, he's a professor of music and director of mariachi activities at Chula Vista's Southwestern College, where he gives mariachi lessons. He authored the book Virtuoso Mariachi, an acclaimed history of mariachi music.
As a soloist and background player, he's performed with Placido Domingo, Charlotte Church, the Moody Blues, Kenny Loggins, Burt Bacharach, Dave Brubeck, and Frank Sinatra, Jr.
