A longtime cellist for the San Diego Symphony (1948 to 1970), Jean Moe spent decades teaching music in San Diego schools, as well as performing with the San Diego Opera and the Bach Aria Group of La Jolla. In 1942, she earned her bachelor’s degree in music from Santa Barbara College. She followed that up in 1966 with a master’s degree in music from San Diego State College, where she subsequently taught a Comprehensive Musicianship curriculum for over 15 years.
Born Jean Margaret Tapie, Moe died of heart failure at Scripps Mercy Hospital on November 28, 2011, at the age of 90.
