Jakob Nowell, son of the late Sublime frontman Bradley Nowell, grew up in San Diego. As of 2013, he was fronting the band Law, who released their debut album Mild Lawtism (Skunk Records) in August 2015.
Law’s sound features Nowell’s far-eastern and world influences. “My band and I try to honor the sacrifices of all of those before us,” says Nowell. “That being said, we seek to transmute the old ways, to evoke a reinvigoration of genuine no-nonsense rock.”
In January 2024, original Sublime members Bud Gaugh and Eric Wilson announced that they are reuniting with Bradley Nowell’s son Jakob as the front man. Jakob first joined drummer Bud Gaugh and bassist Eric Wilson on stage at a benefit concert for Bad Brains’ H.R. in December 2023, where they performed an eight-song set including many Sublime classics like “Wrong Way,” “Santeria,” “What I Got” and “April 29, 1992 (Miami).”
Around the same time, in April 2024, Nowell released his debut Jakobs Castle album Enter: The Castle via Epitaph Records, preceded by a single for the track “2 Hours Ago.”
Meanwhile, original Sublime members Bud Gaugh and Eric Wilson announced they were reuniting, with Jakob Nowell as the frontman in place of his late father, Bradley Nowell.
