Irina Bessonova was born in Russia and began studying music at age of four at the National Music School for Gifted Children. She graduated from Kiev State Conservatory with a Master of Arts degree in Piano, Ensemble Performance, Accompaniment, and Piano Pedagogy. She taught at the Gliere College of Music in Kiev for 15 years where she was also its leading accompanist. During this period she performed throughout Europe, Russia, and Ukraine.
In 2002, she moved to San Diego and has continued her career as a piano soloist, accompanist, and teacher. She is a member of the Music Teacher Association of California (MTAC) and prepares students regularly for certified MTAC competitions and events. She performs regularly in San Diego and Los Angeles.
