Based in Kearny Mesa, Head Trip Superstar released their debut full-length Beautiful in June 2004, earning airplay with songs like "Tortured Home" and "Down." The band went on hiatus in 2007 and reformed in 2014 with the release of Love You to Death, which earned them a San Diego Music Award nomination for Best Hard Rock.
Their single Let's Get Medicated (Radio Star Records) was released in 2015. "It's about the human struggle of self medicating and denial," says Rich Varville, "be it drugs, alcohol, food, sex, or any other vice that we use to escape reality and deal with our troubles. The song too deals with self realization and repudiation, as well and the inability to change, therefore stuck in the vicious cycle of self-loathing. The song is personal to me because I've seen close family members battle their demons in different ways as I sit on the sidelines, wishing there was something I could do."
"It makes you realize people have to want to make a change in themselves. But, sometimes the demons win."
