Based in University City, Point Loma, Pacific Beach, the members of H.A. Perkins were born and raised in San Diego. Brian Vilven (bassist for Governor Drive) and Spencer Jensen are cousins who named the band after their late grandfather H.A. Perkins. Jensen, Vilven, and Michael Bokosky have been playing together in various bands since 2000.

A debut EP Celebration was released in November 2011. In concert, the band is supplemented by Evan Patrick Smith (keys) and Mario Garduno (drums).
