Inspired by Brooklyn’s Moon Hooch, which re-imagines EDM tunes played through sax and drums, the North County trio Grim Slippers refashions dubstep and other techno material through their rock-trio format.
The band features Will Parsons (ESP Quartet), Eric Kennedy, and Brennan Plassmeyer, who all grew up in Carlsbad, CA. During middle school, the trio would often listen to records from The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, and Red Hot Chili Peppers. Soon, the three set-up a jam-space in Plassmeyer's father's living room, and began practicing covers of their favorite songs such as "Roadhouse Blues" and "Hey Joe."
Plassmeyer later attended Harvey Mudd College, while Kennedy served as a missionary in Recife, Brazil, and Parsons lived in a single apartment in Long Beach, where he constantly wrote and composed. Coming back together to perform and record, their four-song EP Take Notice was released in June 2016.
A full-length called Graveyard Soirée was released in 2017. By January 2018, bassist Will Parsons had left the band and was playing with Imagery Machine.
