Founded by Dr. Angela Yeung in the fall of 2010, the Greater San Diego Chamber (GSDC) Orchestra is comprised of instrumentalists who enjoy coming together to make and share beautiful orchestral music from all classical periods. The orchestra’s repertoire includes symphonic pieces, concerti, and choral works with orchestral accompaniment. The ensemble is part of the San Diego Music Coterie, which also includes a Celli ensemble, and woodwind quintet, and a chorus.
Along with a regular performance schedule, the orchestra hosts an annual concerto contest for students through the Music Teachers Association of California (MTAC), the winners of the contest get to perform with the orchestra during a spring concert.
Most concerts take place at the Shiley Theatre on the University of San Diego campus, but the orchestra also plays at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts, Balboa Park, and at local schools. It has been invited to play for the San Diego Jewish Film Fesitval, the San Diego Chinese Art and Cultural Societys International Music Fesitval, the Linda Vista Multi-cultural fair, and many other local events.
