The God Machine features singer-guitarist Robin Proper-Sheppard, bassist Jimmy Fernandez, and drummer Ronald Austin. After signing to Fiction Records, they released their Purity EP, with its lead single "Home," followed by The Desert Song EP.
They relocated to England, where Scenes from the Second Storey was released in 1993. While recording their second album, One Last Laugh In A Place of Dying, bassist Fernandez died from a a brain hemorrhage and the band split.
Robin Proper-Sheppard went on co-found Sophia, while Ron Austin recorded with The Cure before quitting the music business for a time. He later formed Arizona-based Mercylane in 2016 with singer Shannon Arizona. Changing his name to Austin Lynn Austin, he relocated overseas and became involved in video production, working in New York with artist Marilyn Minter on the experimental video for "Green Pink Caviar."
