Singer/guitarist Joseph D'Angelo (Guy Good and the Decentones, Ranch 2) fronted his own DIY underground recording project Department Store Santas, playing folky underground rock in the early 1980s.
Another local DIY band self-recording their releases, Friends of Ghosts, was fronted by Don Andrew Marries (aka Donnie Darq) in the mid-1980s, with D'Angelo often playing bass with the group. They recorded a self-titled full-length that received little distribution, followed by a sophomore album called Realm of the Senses.
"This is why the group was named Friends of Ghosts," says Darq. "My older Brother Jim passed away in 1980. He bought me my first guitar and encouraged me to play."
