Duale - aka Douglas McAuthur McCain - grew up in New Hope, just outside Minneapolis, graduating high school in 1999. After several skirmishes with the law, including convictions for giving police a false name or ID in 2003 and 2008, he relocated to San Diego and released a series of mixtapes and EPs.
In June 2014, it was reported the McCain had gone to Syria to fight with a radical Islamic group, after he tweeted an ISIS fighter with the message "I will be joining you guys soon." Reports later surfaced that he had been killed.
