Dead American was founded by Cove Reber (ex-Saosin) and writing partner Chad Rexton. Their debut 5-track EP The Shape of Punk is Dumb was recorded at Rigby Road Studios in Salt Lake City with producer and engineer Joel Pack and released on October 5, 2018. It was re-released a few months later on limited edition vinyl with an unreleased bonus track, “False Intentions.”
The duo relocated to southern California, where both had grown up, and recruited longtime friends Josh Latham on bass, Jamey Price on guitar, and drummer Kyle Rosa.
