Jazz pianist/composer DC DowDell studied Music Education at UCLA and earned his Masters of Music Composition at UNT. His style and piano technique blends the fine inner voicings of modal with the highly energetic impressions of the avante garde. He has appeared with Bobby Vinton, Marilyn McCoo, and Rosemary Clooney, to name just a few.
His passion for jazz led to composing and arranging charts for vocalists, solo instrumental artists, and orchestra, with influences from Gil Evans, Bob Florence, and George Russell. In 1993, the first publishing of Basic Musicianship was released, a primary music reference and theory text written by DowDell. His full-length Creative Bondage dropped in 2008, on the Passion Music label.
DowDell lives in Little Italy and appears locally with a jazz ensemble, as well as teaching jazz theory and composition at A Passion for Jazz! Music Studios.
