David Chase earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Ohio State. He moved from Cincinnati to San Diego with his wife Ann in the early 1970s, when he began conducting the chorus at UC San Diego and at Palomar College, where he landed on the faculty.
As of 2013, Chase has been choral conductor for the La Jolla Symphony & Chorus for forty years, building its ranks up to around 120 members. His daughter, MacArthur Fellow grant recipient Claire Chase, fronts the International Contemporary Ensemble, aka ICE.
