Crooked is an old time folk, Irish, and bluegrass band which has featured Meghann Welsh and Batya MacAdam-Somer (both of the G. Burns Jug Band), Anna Levitt and Chad Pittman (both of River City), Michael Nieman, Nick Montemarano, and Joe Pomianek.
Says Pittman, "Everyone in the band sings, plays, and writes, which produces a lot of diversity between songs."
Their full-length To the Dancing Ground was released in October 2016, featuring nine original songs and one old time tune. The album was preceded by a single for "Waitin’ Around for Townes" which, according to Pittman, "is a reference to our love of Townes Van Zandt."
"The cover art is by Rosalie Fanshel, a Berkeley-based artist and very good friend of Anna’s. Rosalie does amazing work, much of which is food inspired, which is her second passion along with art, including a very popular Berkeley’s Farmer’s Market banner. One subtlety in the image that not everyone catches is that Michael is playing a bodhran, which is an Irish drum that you hold in your lap."
