Crash & the Burns was founded by Spokane, Washington transplant Ryan Koontz and Mark Murino, both of the anthemic rock band Dirty Sweet, who won two 2007 San Diego Music Awards, for Best Rock and Best Rock Album, as well as winning Best Rock again at the 2008 SDMAs before becoming inactive after their 2010 album American Spiritual.
Crash & the Burns was later filled out by Gregory Page drummer Josh Hermsmeier (who attended SDSU and Point Loma Nazarene University) and another Dirty Sweet vet, Christian Schinelli (Pocket, the Price of Dope).
