Formed in 1996, Convoy was fronted by future members of Louis XIV. After independently releasing Pineapple Recording Sessions, the group was signed to Hybrid Recordings. The label released Black Licorice in August 2001, after which Convoy recorded the Rolling Stones’ “Let’s Spend the Night Together” for a Sheraton Hotels commercial.
Guitarist Robbie Dodds quit in 2002, and the band was finished by the end of 2003.
Vocalists/guitarists Jason Hill and Brian Karscig played together in Dishwater. The duo also hooked up with Convoy drummer Mark Maigaard, along with bassist Jimmy Armbrust, to flesh out the Louis XIV concept.
Two reunion performances happened at the Casbah on January 14 and 15, 2011, sparking speculation that more shows may be planned. Another partial reunion happened November 19 when Brian Karscig played Sight & Sound with Convoy guitarist Robbie Dodds at 3rdSpace (4610 Park Boulevard).
