Comprised of musicians from San Diego’s Local AFM 325, the Classics Philharmonic Orchestra specializes in a presentation designed to introduce classical music to school-age students. They perform around thirty concerts each year.
The ensemble’s Classics for Kids concerts fuse live orchestra performance with visual media, making classical music come to life through visual interpretations of dance, drama, art, film, and more.
As of 2010, the Orchestra music director is clarinetist Dana Mambourg Zimbric, who holds a bachelor's of music in clarinet performance and a master's in orchestral conducting from the University of Wisconsin. She has also served as guest conductor with Orchestra Nova San Diego, formerly known as the San Diego Chamber Orchestra.
