Afro-Latino World Music Night at the WorldBeat Center in San Diego


August 10 The WorldBeat Cultural Center in Balboa Park presents Afro- Latino Music Night starting at 8 pm with the Women's Spirit Music Ensemble and continuing at 9 pm with the Afro- Latino Jazz Descarga . There will be dancing and Caribbean food.

At 8 pm the Women's Spirit Music Ensemble will perform. Their music is an expression of sound as a healing and transformative force. Five inspirational women share their passion for music and spirit in a collective expression of musical force based in World Music, Latin Music and Jazz traditions. Bringing Rhythms, melodies and songs from Tibet, India, Brazil, Mexico, Cuba and Black America the group creates a magical space where we can connect with higher forces and heal ourselves.

At at 9 pm The WorldBeat Afro-Latin Jazz Ensemble will perform.

This group will feature dynamic interplay between West African Percussionist Nana Yaw Asiedu and Brooklyn native Irving Soto who is Puerto Rican by descent. Cuban Bassist Ignacio Arango from Havana is on bass, and Guitar, Paul Ruiz on Trumpet and Turiya Mareya on Piano performing original works and arrangements.

The music is World Jazz , highly rhythmic yet harmonicly sophisticated and rich with melody and completely danceable.

There will be Dancing and Caribbean food served in the One World Cafe
