What I believe to be the only freeway interchange in San Diego without stoplights is about to lose that distinction. Crews have been busy for the last several weeks pouring new concrete and installing new poles for the signals at I-805 and Phyllis Place in Serra Mesa. This is apparently part of the so-called "traffic mitigation" scheme the city required from developers of new condo projects in Mission Valley. I guess the idea is to use Serra Mesa as a relief valve for the truly absurd levels of traffic the new developments will bring to MV. No notice of these new obstructions was given in advance, apparently to forestall protest from those who will be affected. Business as usual, cram in as many boxes as possible, pay no attention to the fact that there aren't enough roads, probably won't be anywhere near adequate parking either so the cars will leak out of the new condo projects to take up available street parking in nearby neighborhoods.
