Concerts This Weekend

There are concerts again this weekend and good ones at that.

The San Diego Symphony is presenting both sides of the Romantic War we discussed earlier. Representing Leipzig is Schumann's Piano Concerto and Brahms' Symphony No. 3. On the Weimar side is Wagner's overture to The Flying Dutchman.

Pianist Louis Lortie was scheduled to play the Schumann but broke his arm while hiking in France. Stepping in to cover is Andrew von Oeyen.

Mr. von Oeyen has performed with several major orchestras including Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Philadelphia.

At Sherwood Auditorium another pianist will be performing an all Liszt program as part of the composer's 200th birthday celebration year. The pianist is recording star Garrick Ohlson. Mr. Ohlson has recorded on labels such as RCA Victor Red Seal, Angel, BMG, Delos, Hänssler, Nonesuch, Telarc, and Virgin Classics.

There is an opportunity to hear the Bach Cello Suites at the Neurosciences Institute . Baroque cellist Tanya Tompkins will be the soloist.
