A concert at a car dealership in P.B.? Yes. Mossy on Mission Bay Drive hosted a pre-Thanksgiving canned-food drive with radio station 91X and two local rock bands, which got the people dancing in the chilly parking lot among new cars and trucks and roving salespeople. Mattson 2 opened the show with a rousing set and then Dead Feather Moon came out and played "all the songs they had."
Mattson 2 are twin brothers and UCSD alumni who play what is termed "surf-jazz" because of the melodic, reverb-drenched sounds. "Pleasure Point," 91X's "local break" track, wowed the crowd.
Dead Feather Moon, who debuted with a full-length album this past July, showed off their blend of rock, alt-country, and some psychedelic blues thrown in for good measure. The band's "Everything I Haven't Said" reminded me of Kings of Leon. "New Song" was so new that it didn't have a title yet. I never had so much fun in a dark parking lot since...well, never mind.
Concert: Mattson 2 and Dead Feather Moon
Date: November 23
Venue: Mossy parking lot, Mission Bay Drive
Seats: standing room only
