Good news from the south!
I was in IB yesterday. Descended from my stretch limo (the 901) at Rainbow Drive and Palm, right across from Silver Strand Plaza. Found myself walking into < ahref="http://www.sandiegoreader.com/places/big-kahunas-pizza-n-stuffs/">Big Kahuna’s (600 Palm Avenue, Suite 117, Imperial Beach).
This is the Hawaiian BBQ and burger place that’s famous partly because a scene from the 1994 movie, “Pulp Fiction” was shot at their LA branch. You see John Travolta gouging into one of their Big Kahuna Burgers ($7.65).
It helped put them on the map. But hey, the food too. Their Hawaiian plates, like grilled mahi mahi with sticky rice and macaroni salad, or kalua pork and cabbage (around the $10 mark) keep folks coming back.
But what stops me today is Jimmy DuPriest. He’s sitting at a booth, surrounded by pork ribs. He’s eating them…all.

“Every Wednesday and Friday we do this,” says Holly McNertney. She’s running the counter right now.
Holly McNertney
“‘This?’”
“Unlimited pork ribs for $13,” she says. “Much as you can eat.”
She looks over at Jimmy. Bare rib bones are flying over his shoulders like ten pins.
“Jimmy’s a special case.”
“Don’t worry,” says Jimmy. “I exercise three times a day, every day. I’ll burn this off by tomorrow.”
And I can see he hasn’t got a spare pound on his body. The guy’s all lean muscle. Travolta would be wise to approach with care.
Now - Lordy! - Holly takes him another plate of ribs.
“Much as you can eat,” she says. "Even Jimmy."
So, great. Wednesdays and Fridays for this deal. But later in the day.
"Come any time after four," says Holly.
They shoulda had her in Pulp Fiction...
