Robert Davi, the menacing-mugged tough monkey we love to hate, will set aside the snarls and brass knuckles long enough to take center stage on The USS Midway to serenade an audience with an evening of Frank Sinatra tunes.
“A Special Concert: Robert Davi Sings Sinatra” kicks off at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 7 aboard The USS Midway. The event honors Craig and Rebecca Irving for their support of our military community. Tickets are $250, with proceeds benefiting Support The Enlisted Project (STEP), providing emergency financial education and support to active duty junior enlisted military and recently discharged veteran families.
He made a superb later-period Bond villain (Licence to Kill), headed the San Fernando Mob (The Butcher), switched teams to play an FBI Agent (Die Hard) and, saving the best for last, starred as stripper-wrangler Al Torres in the delightful and deeply under-praised Showgirls.
Who knew he could sing? Every kid in America who hissed at his performance as the opera-singing creep in The Goonies!
The event is being billed as “Mad Men on the USS Midway,” and guests are encouraged to come dressed in their Kennedy-era best. Having never watched an episode of the popular cable series, a little research reveals Davi never appeared on the show. I’m guessing “Showgirls on the USS Midway” or “Kill the Irishman on the USS Midway” was the wrong connotation.
A call to the organizing group confirmed my suspicions. Keying into the Sinatra theme, and Davi’s affection for the series, they decided to go Mad. Tickets are $250, with proceeds benefiting the Rosie Network and Support the Enlisted Project (STEP). For more information visit here.
