Planned Parenthood protests possible prosecution of marriage-marring Marine for multiple murders

Statement released following the news that Christopher Lee, the ex-Marine arrested on suspicion of killing Marine wife Erin Corwin and hiding her body in a mineshaft, may be prosecuted for a double homicide if it is determined that she was pregnant.

Here at Planned Parenthood, we naturally oppose the murder of women. We also believe that no woman should be forced to have an abortion. But if a woman's pregnancy is terminated against her will, whether by her death or other means, the resultant fetal death isn't murder. Murder involves the killing of a human person. And if we've learned anything from Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey, it's that the fetus is absolutely, unequivocally, not a person. Because if the fetus were a person, it would be entitled to full protection under the law. And if that happened, then abortion would be the taking of innocent human life. And that just can't be true. So if you want to prosecute a man who kills a pregnant woman because he's killed the fetus as well, fine. Call it fetal abuse or something. Call it nonconsensual abortion, even. Just don't call it murder. Because it can't be murder. That's all there is to it. Defending abortion rights means doing so even when it's difficult. This is one of those times.
