Meet Toolbox Brewing Company

Early info on upcoming San Diego brewery gleaned at bottle-share

I love me a bottle-share. There are the obvious reasons—beer, often special and always plentiful. But even more than that, there’s the camaraderie of individuals from all walks of life coming together and bonding over a shared passion. Life has too few opportunities for such communing and, in my opinion, hardly any that rival this near-perfect situation. Simply put, you meet the nicest people at bottle-shares. And sometimes, if you’re a beer writer, you get some really cool leads.

Last week, while attending a bottle-share, I was able to match a face with the name of an individual I’d been communicating with through the Internet airwaves, Peter Perrecone. He is a homebrewer with big aspirations and, according to a great many in the know, formidable brewing skills, and he is working toward going pro via one of San Diego's many upcoming brewing projects, Toolbox Brewing Company.

Over a strawberry sour ale, he informed me that they are working with a newly secured space. Once situated, they will install a small six-barrel system with the intention of creating a strategic collection of beers. Perrecone is most excited about having a solid sour beer program and offering numerous other barrel-aged beers. That said, he intends to craft a myriad hoppy beers, because he realizes that, being in Southern California, it’s not only expected, but required to sate the Alpha-acid craving tastes of local beer drinkers.

Other details about the business have yet to be ironed out, but like many of the small samples of beer experienced at a bottle-share, I was eager to dole out this tiny nugget about another upcoming San Diego County brewing company.
