A 25-year-old pro boxer’s life ended while training at a Tijuana gym on Tuesday, March 29.
Humberto Tapia Armenta, who was considered by some to have a bright future in the sport, was shot by boxing promoter Adolfo Huerta Salcido, who was also an employee at the Hermanos Ulloa gym.
According to police, the shooting occurred at approximately 6 p.m., after the promoter voiced his suspicions that the young boxer was messing around with his wife. Hot words were exchanged and a punchfest ensued, according to witnesses. The situation seemed to calm, but the promoter subsequently produced a pistol and shot the boxer in the abdomen.
Cruz Roja paramedics arrived at the scene and attempted to transport Tapia Armenta to a hospital, but he died in transit. Police arrived next and the witnesses pointed out Huerta Salcido as perp. He was arrested and taken in for arraignment on murder charges.
