Chef's Table in Sally's Kitchen
Sally's Restaurant,
Hyatt Regency Hotel,
One Market Place, Downtown
(619) 687-6080
Dining at Sally's private kitchen has little to do with Norman Rockwell paintings and less with homespun American food. Glass-enclosed and seating only 6 to 12 people, it offers a five-course meal starting at $65, which does not include tax, tip, or wine. Considering the high quality of the food, the variety of the dishes, the excellence of the preparation, and the entire experience, the evening for your family and friends is a bargain. Though menus vary according to individual taste, the meal often begins with Sally's seafood selection, a platter of cold lobster, crab legs, oysters, clams, mussels, and shrimp with a trio of three sauces. This is followed by a choice of soup, either butternut squash topped with Maryland blue lump crab and caramelized pecans, or chilled gazpacho garnished with shrimp. Two entrées are served. The fish course may be the swordfish or salmon with caviar buerre blanc, and the meat may be stuffed tenderloin or pecan-crusted rack of lamb. Dessert consists of Sally's sampler, two or three kinds of crème brûlée, lava cake, and fried banana. For prenuptial dinners, this can't be beat. Advance reservations are required.
