The title and the timber are taken from the 1973 biopic on Sheriff Buford Pusser, but this remake-slash-update-slash-relocation is so generic — cleaning up the gambling, drugs, and corruption in a Northwest mill town — that no attribution was really required. Perhaps it would have been better called Walking Wide, to fit the physique of The Rock, whose air of moral rectitude has a nice sincerity to it. Or even Walking Short, to fit the hour-and-a-quarter running time of a grade-B programmer of 1954. With Johnny Knoxville and Neal McDonough; directed by Kevin Bray. (2004) — Duncan Shepherd
