Brian Gibson's comedy about the attempted comeback of a disbanded Seventies rock group known as Strange Fruit ("Pretty pointless reunion. Suppose I might get a shepherd's pie out of it?") mines the same kinds of laughs as This Is Spinal Tap, only a good deal fewer of them, and even those are dampened with a drizzle of pathos. British stage and TV actor Bill Nighy wins top marks among a solid surrounding cast (Stephen Rea, Timothy Spall, Jimmy Nail, Billy Connolly, Juliet Aubrey) as the death-warmed-over, Prozac-popping lead vocalist.
