Graduate students (plus one professor and one priest) assemble in the church of the Brotherhood of Sleep to fend off the Anti-Christ, now ready for action. As in Assault on Precinct 13 and The Thing, John Carpenter conceives of the situation as a sort of Howard Hawksian group under siege, although without the bond of a profession to unite them, or much of any other sort of bond either. (Some of the Higher Physics shop talk, or double talk, is dizzyingly amusing, however.) And the chief function of the "group," so-called, is just to provide plenty of stray lambs for slaughter. Pretty tepid most of the way, though it comes to a full boil near the end. With Jameson Parker, Lisa Blount, Donald Pleasence, and Victor Wong. (1987) — Duncan Shepherd
