A techno-terrorist with a Picasso stew of a face demands $1 billion lest a computer virus of his own design blanket the Eastern seaboard. Enter a hospitalized cop who deputizes the disembodied aura of a young cancer patient, a supernatural superhero of sorts who helps infirmed spirits reclaim their bodies. Acting as a divine drone, our hero tracks suspects, takes dictation, and reports back. This French-language animated feature set entirely in New York is the second from Jean-Loup Felicioli and Alain Gagnol, the pair that captivated audiences with A Cat in Paris. There’s strained laughter (the botched taping of a video ransom note is glaringly trite) and even an occasional dumb thud. No criminal mastermind — even one hip enough to verbally draw attention to genre convention not more than three sentences before — is going to let slip the password needed to save the day. Note: both English language and French language/English subtitled versions will screen. (2015) — Scott Marks
