A little hocus pocus from the widow of a doctor’s first fatality in three years sets the stage for this outlandishly entertaining thriller. After surviving a car crash that claims the life of her fiancé, our young medico awakens to find herself happily married to her boss (and dead beau’s arch rival). Doctors are quick to rule out traumatic brain injury, but what about America’s favorite sitcom malady, amnesia? Friends and family mentally size her up for a straight jacket while audiences wonder when director Jonathan Hua Lang Lim will put an end to the sappy flashbacks. Credit star Michelle Chen for playing it with a straight face. Her performance alone prevents this from fully degenerating into the Lindsay Lohan vehicle it otherwise is. That said, I couldn’t wait to see how far they were going to stretch this crazy melodrama, and in the end, I wasn’t disappointed. With Jackson Rathbone and Sung Kang as the respective lover and husband. (2015) — Scott Marks
