It’s hard to say which is a finer encapsulation of the proceedings: Robert De Niro sitting for a caricature artist at a children’s birthday party or Dustin Hoffman detonating a whoopee cushion and saying, “We have to laugh at the stuff that makes us human.” Put another way, whether you prefer creaky Godfather references or gags based on bodily functions, you won’t be disappointed. In any case, this is not a film about the little Fockers of the title. It’s about a Gen X Beta-male dad learning to love same. (2010) — Matthew Lickona
