Plausible enough conspiracy theory founded on a couple of established facts: the Nazi experiments with synthetic fuel and the present public mistrust of American oil companies. And an interesting enough chain of events leading from a murder in Beverly Hills to another at the Berlin Wall, with several more in between. The final explanation of who has been killing whom, and why, is so confusing that you feel no one except perhaps Jack Anderson could straighten it out. A certain hallucinatory highpoint is reached in the scene at the Club Venus, where political and sexual pornography meet and mingle. George C. Scott, Marthe Keller, and Marlon Brando; written by Steve Shagan; directed by John G. Avildsen. (1980) — Duncan Shepherd
