Inside the Mafia, on the elbow of an FBI infiltrator. And all of a sudden Lefty from Mulberry Street won't go anywhere without Don the Jeweller. The factual basis adds little in the way of interest or excitement, although it seems to inspire a desire to instruct (mustaches are "against regulations," you never mention the name of a rat, etc.). Al Pacino, who has already been in the shoes of an undercover man (Serpico, Cruising), here takes the part of the loyal mob soldier with "twenty-six fuckin' hits" to his credit. His final scene of resignation to fate and responsibility to family is quite touching. With Johnny Depp, Michael Madsen, Bruno Kirby, Anne Heche; directed by Mike Newell. (1997) — Duncan Shepherd
