End of the Rainbow
79 Horton Plaza, San Diego, 92101
If the play's the thing, then Peter Quilter's play with music about Judy Garland's attempted comeback in 1968, is a tabloid melodramatic dud. Good and evil angels wrestle for her soul, as she begins her final descent. It's clear where the simplistic Rainbow is going. What makes Intrepid Theatre's production worth seeing is Eileen Bowman's performance as Garland. She doesn't have the voice down pat (who could?) but she comes close. Jeffrey Jones provides solid support as Mickey Deans, Garland's husband #5. Worth a try.
