God of Carnage
1363 Old Globe Way, San Diego, 92101
Yasmina Reza's Darwinian farce reverses what Hamlet tells Horatio: there may be less to heaven and earth than is dreamt of in our philosophy. Two couples try to arbitrate an attack on a playground. They are civil. Then things fall apart. In inevitable, hilarious stages, they regress from restraint to blithering lunatics. Reza writes plays for actors. Her characters don't have traditional arcs, moving from A to B; they're more like precipitous falls from grace. Under Richard Seer's expert direction, Caitlin Muelder, Lucas Caleb Rooney, Erika Rolfsrud, and T. Ryder Smith get a workout at the White Theatre.
