Edo Marionettes from Japan

The Edo Marionettes Troupe is on tour from Tokyo and will perform with ayatsuri ningyo (string-controlled puppets), a puppet tradition that came to Japan from China around 360 years ago. This program includes four vignettes: Kappore, a solo male marionette performing an energetic dance; Yoidore, a stumbling drunkard; Kurokami, the story of a beautiful young woman in love; and Shishimai, the wild Lion Dance. English translation is provided. Master folk musician Grego will give a puppet-powered musical introduction. Tickets include full admission to the Japanese Friendship Garden.
