Eat, Drink, & Be Sicilian: San Diego Sicilian Festival
The event includes grape stomping, authentic Sicilian cuisine, nonstop musical entertainment, cultural displays, a Kids Zone, and the Bellissimo! Car Show.
Members of the San Diego Opera Chorus will be singing opera arias and art songs. The Jazz and Opera Stage at Grape Street will showcase opera in San Diego and raise awareness in support of San Diego Opera. After an opening set by jazz recording artist NovaMenco, the voices of the Point Loma Opera Theatre and the San Diego State University Opera Theatre will offer a taste of opera. Then, from 2:45 until 6 p.m., the San Diego Opera Chorus will offer a revolving showcase of music interspersed with jazz.
The Convivio Center is hosting multiple Frank Zappa-related events during this year’s Sicilian Festival, including the U.S. premiere of Sicilian filmmaker Salvo Cuccio’s documentary Summer of ‘82: When Zappa Came to Sicily (screening Saturday, May 17) and a tribute set performed by sometime-Skelpin Tim Foley and the Random Folk (May 18).
